The mic by night of the week
Open mics move around more than any other kind of night out, so this page lists the recurring night rather than a set of dates. Every venue below was checked on its own page on September 7. Where a room publishes a sign-up method, it is in the last column, because turning up at the wrong time is the usual way to miss a five-minute slot.

Thursday is the real open mic night
Four of the eight rooms run on a Thursday, which makes it the night to plan around if you want a choice. The two ends of the evening pair well: Big Top from 6 to 9 p.m. is a brewery taproom where the crowd talks through the quiet songs, and McCurdy's at 9 p.m. is a comedy room where they do not. McCurdy's is the strictest and the most worth doing properly. It is free to perform and free to watch with no drink minimum, it is 18 and over with valid ID for performers and audience alike, and slots are booked in advance rather than claimed at the door. Their own conduct page says to confirm 24 hours ahead and warns that dates fill months out, so email well before the week you want.
The two rooms without a bar
If you want a stage without alcohol, there are two. Flobucha is a kombucha taproom on Mall Drive that provides a piano, electric and acoustic guitars through an amp, and two microphones, so you can turn up empty-handed. It runs on the first Thursday of the month, which means September's has passed and the next is October 1. Their events calendar is not being maintained and still shows a June date in its own listing field, so call (941) 248-2133 before you go.
Adobe Kava in the Village of the Arts runs a Sunday mic and is also alcohol-free. Their page lists a start time for every other weekly event and none for this one, so the night is confirmed and the hour is not. Two closures worth knowing about
Motorworks Brewing in Bradenton ran a Wednesday mic with hosts Johnny V and Leo Torrejon, and it is not running. Their site carries a notice that the Bradenton taproom is closed for remodeling, and their calendar has no events at all in September, with the next one falling on October 4. The Launchpad showcase that fed off that mic is on hold with it.
The Cock and Bull Pub on Cattlemen Road, for years the best-known weekly mic in Sarasota, is closed. The property sold in February 2026 and a reopening under new ownership has been reported as early as October 2026. It is the one to watch if you want the old room back.
Before you sign up
Five minutes is the standard slot at Katy's and McCurdy's, and a good rule everywhere else. Bring your own instrument unless the room says it provides one, since only Flobucha promises a backline.
