Summer in Sarasota
Off-peak season is a local secret: warm water, easier parking, and the same spectacular sunsets.
Why summer is underrated
Sarasota fills up in winter, but summer is when locals quietly enjoy it. The water is at its warmest, the beaches are less crowded on weekdays, restaurants are easier to get into, and the Gulf sunsets are as good as they get all year.
Beat the heat and the crowds
The simple trick is timing. Get to the beach early, or do what locals do and arrive late afternoon, around four, then stay for sunset as the day cools off and the parking turns over. Midday is for the museums, the gardens, and a long lunch.
What to do
Cool off at Mote Marine or Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, wander the Ringling, browse St. Armands Circle, then catch a free weekend concert or a farmers market. Check the homepage for what is on this weekend.
